The specialists shops, cafes and restaurants make the Hitchin town a pleasure to visit offering something different to many other towns.  Hitchin Swimming pool is a public indoor and outdoor swimming pool, 5 minutes walk from the Firs Hotel providing a modern 25m x 17m deck level main pool and a warmer toddlers' pool. A 50m heated outdoor pool with a learner pool and sun terrace is open from May to September. The Hitchin Museum and the Hitchin British Schools are two interesting places to visit as well as many parks and gardens. Hitchin Market is the largest in the area and the 2010 National Market of the Year Awards has announced that Hitchin Markets is offically the Best Private Market in Britain. St Mary's Church is a focal point of the Hitchin town,  founded in 792 the tower dates from 1190.
